An Interactive Guide to Nutrition, Cooking and Healthy Living

The Health Equation – A Way of Life is an interactive eBook created by Gerry Gajadharsingh and filmmaker Davide Ongaro. First published in 2014, it brings together practical nutritional guidance, healthy recipes and wider lifestyle strategies used at The Health Equation.

The original concept was to demonstrate how nutritious meals could be prepared simply and enjoyably. The project developed into a broader guide exploring the relationships between food, breathing, sleep, stress, exercise and emotional wellbeing.

The Apple Books edition includes 10 high-definition cooking videos filmed and edited by Davide, alongside written explanations, recipes and practical guidance. A non-interactive PDF edition is also available for readers using other devices.

What the iBook Includes

The iBook provides practical information on:

  • Choosing and preparing nutritious whole foods.
  • Breakfast, lunch and evening-meal ideas.
  • Healthy cooking techniques demonstrated through video.
  • Developing a more structured and sustainable way of eating.
  • Breathing and relaxation strategies.
  • Sleep and recovery.
  • Exercise, meditation and stress management.
  • The relationship between physical and emotional health.
  • Patient perspectives on making long-term lifestyle changes.

The emphasis is on helping readers understand the principles behind healthier choices rather than prescribing a single perfect diet. Some of the clinical language reflects the period in which the book was written, but its central message—that health is influenced by the interaction of nutrition, movement, breathing, sleep and psychological wellbeing—remains fundamental to The Health Equation.

Why the Book Was Created

Gerry and Davide originally planned to create a collection of video demonstrations showing how to prepare enjoyable, nutritious meals using straightforward ingredients.

As the project developed, they recognised that nutrition could not be considered in isolation. Eating behaviour and digestive health may also be influenced by sleep, breathing, physical activity, stress, emotional wellbeing and the practical demands of everyday life.

The result was an interactive guide combining recipes and cooking demonstrations with the wider principles of The Health Equation approach. It was designed to help readers make realistic, informed changes rather than follow a short-term or unnecessarily restrictive diet.

About the Authors

Gerry Gajadharsingh DO is an osteopath and Diagnostic Consultant in Integrated Medicine with almost four decades of clinical experience. He founded The Health Equation in 2004 and has longstanding interests in nutrition, metabolic health, breathing physiology, exercise and the assessment of complex health problems. Gerry also enjoys cooking and developed many of his culinary influences through his Trinidadian and Irish family background.

Davide Ongaro collaborated with Gerry in developing the visual and practical elements of the project. He filmed and edited the 10 high-definition recipe videos that form a central part of the interactive Apple Books edition.

Together, they aimed to combine clinical and nutritional understanding with accessible cooking demonstrations that readers could apply in their own homes.
